Hearing Services

Evaluation of hearing loss, dizziness and balance disorders as well as hearing aid dispensing is provided through our Audiology Department, staffed by a certified licensed audiologist. The Audiologist is certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and licensed by the state of Maryland for audiologic testing and hearing aid dispensing.
 

The Signs of a Hearing Problem

  • Can hear, but cannot understand.
  • More difficulty hearing in groups.
  • More difficulty hearing in noisy settings than in quiet settings.
  • Turns the TV or radio very loud.
  • Responds inappropriately to questions.
  • Inattentive or socially withdrawn.
  • Ringing or other sounds in the ear.
  • Delayed speech or language development.
  • Poor academic performance.
  • History of:
    • ear infections
    • head trauma
    • noise exposure
    • hearing loss in family
    • Ototoxic medications

Hearing Aid Services

If your hearing loss cannot be treated with medicine or surgery, you may be a candidate for a hearing aid. Technological advances in the last 10 years bring even greater potential for you to be a successful hearing aid user.

Ear Mold Fittings:

  • Ear impressions for new ear molds
  • Ear mold alterations for comfort or acoustic changes
  • Testing performed with hearing aid for fine tuning and user's comfort
  • Orientation to hearing aid use, care and maintenance, and use of hearing aid controls

Hearing Aid Dispensing

We dispense a full line of hearing aids, ranging from conventional analog technology to the latest fully digital technology.

Fully digital hearing aides provide the listener with
  • superior CD quality sound processing
  • are fully automatic
  • minimize the risk of feedback (whistling)
  • process speech and noise differently
  • (Weak sounds are made audible wile loud sounds are made comfortable.)
  • are compatible and easy to use with most phone systems
Hearing aids come in a variety of sizes ranging from the Behind-the-Ear style to the almost invisible completely in the canal hearing aid.

We also provide a variety of assistive listening devices, anything from telephone amplifiers to FM systems.

Before we dispense a hearing aid to you, we advise you to obtain a written medical clearance from an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist

 

Follow-up Services

  • Monitoring of hearing aid functions
  • Testing of malfunctioning aids
  • Access to repairs for all aids

Monitoring of hearing aid use to ensure that the hearing aid and its controls remain appropriate for the hearing loss.
